CR 914 - One Design The CR 914 is based on the original design of the International America's Cup Class. This one design class allows no variations in hulls, spars, sails or replacement parts. 36" (914mm) long, 658 sq. in. sail area, 6.25 lb displacement.
The 914 millimeter long CR 914 is based on the original design of the International America's Cup Class. Because the CR 914 is relatively inexpensive and can be purchased fully built or can be assembled from a kit without special skills or tools, it qualifies as an entry-level class. A high performance racing machine that accelerates quickly, turns on a dime and points like a tour guide. It sails well in an extremely wide range of wind velocities, without having to use multiple rigs for light and heavy air like some other classes must do. Weighing only 6.25 pounds and carrying 658 square inches of sail area, it ghosts amazingly well in the lightest of air. Ballasted by over three pounds of lead in the streamlined bulb at the end of its deep fin keel, however, this remarkable little boat readily handles a 20 knot wind and can keep racing in gusts to 30 without shortening sail. The hull and deck are cast as one piece of ABS plastic. The high-aspect-ratio foil-shaped rudder and keel fin are molded with their shafts installed. The spars are made of aluminum tubing, the keel bulb is a shaped lead casting, and the sails are dye-cut from lightweight rip-stop polyester spinnaker cloth. Kits come from the US distributor with complete electronics, a boat stand, epoxy and cyan acrylic glue, and an "upgrade package" that has been developed in the United Stares to overcome a few minor shortcomings in the original kit that were identified early in our experience with the boat. You get all the parts, reinforcing materials, fasteners and everything else you need to build and sail the CR 914 except sandpaper and batteries. Oh, yes, before you can go sailing you also need some water. Kits, partially built boats, finished boats ready to sail, and boats with custom paint jobs and special graphics can be ordered from the US distributor, Chesapeake Performance Models, which also carries a full line of parts and accessories. Additionally, this 950mm boat is of high quality for a modest price. The DF95 is sold ready to race which includes transmitter and receiver, just add AA batteries. For those already in the hobby, a boat without transmitter and receiver can be purchased. The DF95 comes with a carbon fiber keel, Mylar sails, and a one piece carbon mast, all cutting edge components. It can be on the water in a few hours and assembled by a person with no experience building boats.

Class RulesThe boat has fleets at nearly 150 clubs around the country. The clubs range from well-established AMYA clubs, full sized boat yacht clubs, school sailing teams to community association clubs. Within these clubs the boat is sailed from beginners to national champion skippers from many other classes. An added benefit of the boat is the well-supplied and dedicated national distributor that provides excellent access to boats, parts and accessories allowed by the class rules. EC-12 - One Design Based on a 1962-63 vintage design for a full-size International 12 Meter. This medium-sized yacht's hull must be initially purchased from a licensed builder. Decks and sails are strictly controlled, purchased or made from scratch. Almost all other equipment is up to the owner. Approx 58" long.
The EC-12M is one of the one-design classes comprising the AMYA-recognized fleet. Class specifications govern virtually every aspect of these yachts from hull and sail design to permitted remote controlled functions. Approximately 5 feet long, with a mast standing about six feet over the deck, the EC-12M weighs in at about twenty-three pounds. Originally a towing tank model for a Charley Morgan twelve meter, the EC-12M can be transported in all but the smallest of cars, sailed in shallow waters, and in winds from mere zephyrs to light gales. The hull is shaped so as to shed dead leaves and other flotsam, an important feature when sailing on inland lakes and ponds. Class Website | ||||||||

Soling 1M - One Design Sanctioned in 1993. The Soling 1 Meter is based on the full-size 27' Olympic Soling.
Soling 1 Meter Class Specifications: 39.37" (1 meter) long, 8-5/8" beam, approx. 60" bottom keel to tip of mast. Displacement 10 lbs. min.
Features: Performance; Single rig allowed means lower total cost; One Design for equality of boats; Kit-Based, kits Available from two manufacturers; Wide distribution of local clubs in all 8 AMYA Regions. The Soling 1 Meter Class was first sanctioned by the AMYA in 1993. With over ten thousand kits sold, and some 4000 boats registered, you can find a Club sailing the Soling 1 Meter in ALL 8 AMYA Regions, and three Provinces in Canada. Over 70 USA and Canadian Clubs list the Soling 1 Meter as the one or the only boat that they support. Something like 50% of ALL RC sailors own at least one Soling!!
For over thirty years since being AMYA-sanctioned, the "Soling" has been a Class that offered top competition at the local, Regional, and USA as well as Canadian National Championship levels.
Class RulesThe Soling 1 Meter is a true One-Design: All aspects related to performance are intended to be restricted to what can be achieved by building a Kit straight from the manufacturer's instructions. (The Soling 1 Meter Class Rules may be downloaded from the links table on this page.) Performance: Soling 1 Meters point high, sail fast, and resist "submarining" like some other more narrow and lighter boats. On a fresh reach or run, the boat gives her skipper fully controlled, exhilarating performance. The fin keel draws only about 8" of water, so the Soling 1 Meter is easier to carry and transport, and can be launched from a shore without wading, or from a dock. And, the Soling has a draft (water below keel) of 8" unlike deep fin/bulb keels that draw 14" or more. These deep draft boats are difficult to launch without a dock (some skippers even routinely use waders!). So the Soling resists snagging in pond weeds, or anchor lines for Marks. - even if encountering weeds, the Soling can almost always be sailed back to shore, instead of having to be rescued by rowboat. Low total cost: The Soling 1 Meter Class allows one rig, using lower cost flat-paneled polyester ("Dacron") sails. The Soling can be sailed in winds from near zero to over 20 MPH, using that single rig. And, in a regatta of less than 5 days' duration, you must use the same rig throughout the regatta. This saves hundreds of dollars for additional rigs and sails required to be bought in order to compete in other popular designs. AND, Soling 1 Meters LOOK like a real sailboat (after all they are a model of a real sailboat!!) Soling 1 Meters must be built from a kit available from the original manufacturer- Victor Model Products (out of business as of 2018), AND currently only from one of two Class-approved manufacturers: 3DRC Boats offers unassembled hull kits. 3DRC also sells full rig kits, aluminum mast and boom kits. Vac-U- Boat offers unassembled hull kits. You cannot modify the interior construction of the 3DRC or Vac-U-Boat kits such as removing structure, or adding carbon fiber or other "exotic" materials. You CAN repair damage. Example- broken mast post- you can drill (3/32") through the center mast step into the post, and use a wood, aluminum even carbon dowel or rod to reinforce and repair the post in a 3DRC or Vac-U-Boat Soling. You cannot remove the mast post, and replace with another structure. And the mast post has to remain installed while racing. Made in the USA: All Solings, since the first off the mold, have been made in the USA. To buy a NEW Soling, contact one or both of our manufacturers: 3RC Boats TM 3drcboats@gmail.com Rick Lawler (website to come) OR Vac-U-BoatTM philpace@vac-u-boat.com Phil Pace 1259 Humphries Rd.
