Our History
Members of the Greater Worcester Model Yacht Club (GWMYC) sail radio controlled model sailboats in the summer on Indian Lake, Morgan Park, Grove Street, Worcester, MA. In the Spring and Fall, racing is held at Memorial Beach, 55 Thompson Rd, Webster Lake.

Founded in 2003 by Al Fearn, of Shrewsbury, the group meets every Tuesday and Thursday, 12:00pm - 2:00pm weather permitting.

We are an informal club that encourages men and women of all ages to join us in sailing Radio Controlled Model Sailboats. Our boats range from about 30 to 70 inches long. Some of the boats are almost ready to sail with only minor assembly required, and others are kits that might take a month or so to build. Boats are constructed based on The American Model Yacht Association (AMYA) model class rules. Visit www.theamya.org to learn more about the various model classes. The most popular model classes sailed by GWMYC members are DragonFlight 95, IOM, Soling, EC12, and RC Laser. GWMYC members are currently racing the DragonFlite 95 but all classes are welcome on the starting line.

The GWMYC sets its race course utilizing several remote controlled GPS anchorless buoys as well as fixed marks.

Our primary goal is to have fun and share the joy of watching the wind (only) make our little boats perform. We invite experienced sailors of large and small boats and beginners who have never sailed to join our group. We typically bring chairs to the water's edge, sail our boats with a transmitter, talk, laugh, kid each other and, of course, solve all the world's problems.
