| HOW TO GET STARTED Would you like to get a feel for model sailing before actually buying a boat? Our Club - Firelands Model Boat Club (FMBC) - has existed for just a couple of years (2025). If you want to learn more, call Gary at 440-653-7166, or email at oneillgary@yahoo.com Gary will answer some preliminary questions, then set a date and time to meet at the pond to let you sail, answer some more questions, including where and how to buy a boat. It's always best to buy a boat that your local club sails - so for us, that is a 40 inch long/ 10 pound Soling 1 Meter, or a 32 inch long/ 6 pound V32. Both are One Design boats, meaning that all of the boats in each of the Classes are essentially equal in performance, so a used one is a great value (at about 50% of the new boat price) If you like competing OR if you ever enjoyed sailboat racing, you’ll like what you see.
